Building Families for Single Parents

Single parents embark on a journey of personal growth as they learn to deal with the challenges of single parenting. This programme supports the development of self-confidence, self-care and effective parenting skills for single parents to meet their children's needs ... and their own.

Building Families for Single Parents Helping single parents to identify their personal strengths. Then they learn how to create secure attachment with their children, building a foundation of security and closeness.

Parents learn techniques to address issues of loss, grief and anger; how to keep children out of conflict; how to give feedback when children make mistakes; how to problem-solve and negotiate; co-parent in a cooperative way; and how to strengthen the family.

There are many issues that need agreement with the children's other parent. This course helps parents negotiate those issues, putting their children's welfare first.

There are many discoveries to be made along the way, such as the long-standing traditions that make each family unique. There are new traditions to be built, too.

Single parents learn how to succeed in raising children who are responsible, respectful and resourceful. The family gains new resources for creating a strengthening sense of identity; and a new foundation for family life.

Duration: 10 weekly sessions of parenting education and group therapy/support. Each session is 4 hours. Work manual provided.
